Dear Families,
We are working every day to increase our stamina for reading and writing. The students have learned that reading and writing for longer periods of time without giving up or stopping is like training for a race. We add a few minutes each day and we have made great progress already these first few weeks. We are up to 22 minutes in reading, and 15 in writing!
Reminders:
ArtPrize Field Trip-An orange sheet with more information came home today. Please fill out and return by next week Friday.
BoxTops-We are always collecting. We even have a fancy box to collect them in our room. Send in anytime!
CanDrive-Please send in those cans to help support our 5th graders. Drive starts on the 26th
Agendas/Flashcards/Homework/Books-Please continue to sign agendas each night after 20 minutes of reading and a quick practice of flashcards. Also, please help students remember that agendas need to come signed each day, the book they are reading at home should be the same one they are reading at school, and to bring their baggie of flashcards back and forth each day. I know this can be a lot to keep track of! But...we are slowing building each of these 3rd graders personal responsibility and the routine will become second nature in a few weeks!
What to ask your child about:
-How does a Scientist observe? What did they observe during our plant investigation?
-Ask about "the 9 trick" we learned today in math (and a pretty fun 9 trick dance party). I'm sorry about the marker on fingers. I thought it would wash right off!! I guess they can practice all weekend :)
-Ask about their personal narrative and have them tell it across their fingers scene by scene.
-Ask about our 3rd grade "big group" time on Thursday.
-What do are the functions of different plant parts?
What we learned this week:
Writing-
I can generate ideas for a personal narrative.
I can increase my writing stamina.
Math-
I can multiply with 5s, 2s, 10s, and 9s.
I can divide into even groups.
Reading-
I can choose books that are just right.
I can have a good conversation. (We learned about taking turns talking, paying attention, asking questions, tracking the speaker)
Science-
I can explore the characteristics of plants.
It was so much fun to see many of you at Color the Park!! Check out the fun pictures below!!!
