Dear Families,
Students are working very hard to publish their informational animal research books. They have taken their pieces from an idea, to a draft, to an edited and revised draft, and now finally to a finished and final perfected published piece! We are very excited to share them with you at the writing celebration zoo next week! We will be collecting stuffed animals of each animal that was researched starting Monday next week (in case you're child wants to bring an animal to school, that is okay!)
Reminders:
Writing Celebration Zoo-Next week Thursday from 1-2. Start in our classroom and then tour around to each room to check out the various animals that 3rd graders wrote about during this unit. Students will present their books and read a few chapters to the "visitors". Grandparents or other family are welcome to the event.
I am hoping to have some animal themed snacks for the event. Looking for donations of any of the following (or any other animal ideas you have!):
-animal crackers
-goldfish
-zebra cakes
-gummy bears
-drinks
Please email me if you can claim one of these items! Thank you!!
Early Release-Next week Friday, Feb. 3. Students are dismissed at 12:15. Sack lunches are available through food service if your child would like to order.
No School-Monday, Feb. 6th
Flashcards-Students should be on to division at this point in the school year. I understand that everyone sometimes gets "stuck" on one set of facts. I watch for this and check with the student to see if they studied that week. I will give grace if they truly know their facts in a snap but don't pass the 20 problems. It is very important to keep practicing their cards every night for a few minutes in order to pass their mad minute on Fridays. Thank you for your help reinforcing this!!
Ask your child about: Make a note in agendas that you asked and they will receive a treat :)
1. Tell me about your design for our new Michigan flag. What features did you add? Why?
2. What have you learned about light in Science?
3. How are you enjoying starting cursive practice? Is this something that comes naturally or is it more difficult for you?
4. What nonfiction book are you reading currently? What text structure does the book use to teach information? (We have learned descriptive and sequential)
What we learned this week:
Writing-
I can publish my informational book.
Math-
I can create place value drawings.
I can write numbers in expanded form.
Reading-
I can paraphrase information in my own words. (Paraphrase is our Park Power Word this week!)
I can understand the 5 main nonfiction text structures. (We worked on descriptive and sequential this week, we are also learning note taking strategies for each structure. We made webs for descriptive and timelines for sequential.)
Science-
I can explain the important features of light.
Social Studies-
I can explain the role of an entreprenure in business.
Have a great weekend!
