We had a big "Book Release" celebration today. Students worked extremely hard on their personal narratives and these were no ordinary stories! They were filled with elaboration, sensory details, dialogue, and students BEST work! We game "raise for the author" like real book critics. Then we had hot cocoa and Oreos, because it made it feel like a real party! We are looking forward to Monday and our Halloween celebration.

They would also love to receive postcards from many different locations in Michigan. If you are able, please send a postcard to their class. Including a fact about your state/city on the postcard would make it extra special. Please be sure to include your name and the child to whom you are sending the card. Please mail the postcards to Park Elementary, Attn: 3rd Grade-Mrs. Mutschler, 5525 Park Ave. Hudsonville, MI 49426. Thank you!

Ask your child about:
- What are some interesting animal adaptations?
- How do you find the area of a rectangle? (area=length x width)
- What are the three branches of government and why are they important? (legislative, executive, judicial)
- Why did the Native Americans choose to settle in Michigan?
- What is your favorite rotation in Math Workshop?-We started Math Workshop this week, and so far it has been extremely successful. The training that I attended on Monday provided many reasons why this is the best practice for kids. I work with a small group of students, who are all at a particular place in their math knowledge, they have a chance to explore, using hands on manipulative and games. Finally, they work independently on practice problems to deeper their understanding.
