Dear Families,
Hello again! I am excited to be back and working with this outstanding group of 4th graders! I am impressed how much the students matured over the summer and already this school year. Because I know nearly all of these students, I have been able to jump right in to our routines and the students know what to expect from me and I from them. It has been great! Please check here for updates and reminders. I will also try to post pictures each week!
Reminders-
Parent Teacher Conferences-They are coming right up...November 6 and 8. A pink sheet came home on Thursday, if you haven't already, please fill it out and return in your child's folder by Monday.
Picture Make Up Day- Friday, October 27
Agendas-Please be sure to check agendas each day and initial if all work is completed. I will do my best to have students write in them each day with reminders and homework. Reading 20 minutes is assigned every night. Please be sure to have your child do this important task every day!!
Halloween-If weather permits, we will be walking to the Laurels for our Halloween parade on the 31st. We will leave school around 1:00, walk down Park Ave. to Van Buren. We will take a right on to Van Buren down to 36th. Then will turn right on 36th Ave walking toward Curtis. Turn right onto Curtis which will take us back to school. If you are interested in attending our parade we are asking parents to line the parade route rather than going in through the Laurels with us, as there is limited space. If it does rain we will not be having an indoor parade. Teachers will have a rain plan for their individual classes.
Halloween Costumes-As your child is planning out his/her costume please remember to make sure they are school appropriate. If the costume comes with a weapon please refrain from sending that to school. Michigan State Law has zero tolerance for any kind of weapon, plastic or otherwise, from being on school premises. Also talk to your child about whether he/she may wear the costume at recess. If it is not raining, students will go outside for recess.
Halloween Party-We will celebrate throughout the school day, but our party will primarily take place from 2:15-3:30. I will send home email reminders about who is bringing snacks next week!
Learning Targets this week-
Reading-
I can make a prediction based on my characters actions.
I can write a detailed reading response based on the day's lesson.
Writing-
I can brainstorm realistic fiction story ideas.
Social Studies-
I can explain the purpose of government.
I can understand the Preamble as part of the Constitution.
Math-
I can solve multi digit multiplication problems using the area model, algebraic, model, and place value model.
Ask your child about-
-How has the transition been between Mrs. D and Mrs. Mutshchler? How are you feeling about the rest of the year?
-How do you make a prediction while reading?
-Which multiplication method do you prefer using when solving problems? Have your child try 24x7 and see how they solve.
-Ask your child to show you the way we learned to draw trees using the letter Y.
-Can you sing The Preamble? Pull up the Schoolhouse Rock Video and singalong...heres the link...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf6NvlXEyzg
I hope you enjoy the weekend! Thanks again for your support as I start back into teaching this great class!
