Dear Families,
I knew my Spring hopefulness last week was wishful! Now we are freezing and looking at more weeks of winter thanks to that silly groundhog!
Lots of interesting and fun things are coming up in 4th grade. Please check back here for info on the latest happenings in our class.
Reminders-
Winter Break- Feb 3-Feb 6-No school! Students should read some each day, plan for their reading projects (see below), spend time on MobyMax....but mostly...enjoy the extra time with your families!
Valentine's Day-Feb. 14-Students should bring a valentine card for each student in the class as we will pass these out on the 14th during our party. Below is a list of names for students to fill our their cards. They are welcome to attach candy if they would like, but it is not required! We will make Valentine "mailboxes" during class on the 12th and 13th. Students should bring a shoebox (by Feb 12) or other type of box that will work well for Valentines sometime next week.

Reading Projects-Hopefully your child came home this week excited about their reading project. As we learn more about nonfiction texts, how to read them and take notes on the information, we are integrating our knowledge into projects. I gave students a list of choices and they are welcome to work on any project that they choose. This is mostly student led and directed and will show their mastery of content, organization skills, creativity, and work ethic. I am excited to see what they come up with. I plan to have a "reading night" where parents will be able to come and check out their projects and see other student's projects. More info coming soon! They may want to bring in materials starting next week for projects. We will work on them a bit each day.
Ask your child about-
-What is your plan for your reading project? What materials do you need? How do you plan to go above and beyond to show your learning?
-How is your Literary Essay coming? (If you have a computer, students can login to their email to show you their essay so far on google docs)
-Ask about the #PESbettertogether assembly today. What did you see/learn?
-How would you like to participate in the JumpRope for Heart contest for PE?
What we learned this week-
Reading-
I can summarize nonfiction text.
I can pick a topic to research.
Writing-
I can write supporting body paragraphs for my literary essay.
Science-
I can explain for internal and external structures help support human growth and survival.
Math-
I can convert mixed numbers to improper fractions.
I can add and subtract mixed numbers.
Have a wonderful LONG weekend!
