Dear Families,
WOW! We made it through the first week of 3rd grade. What a wonderful group of students I have the privilege of teaching! We worked hard this week on learning the ways and procedures of our classroom. We will continue to practice next week. We also learned about each other, and more about me. Students enjoyed sharing their "Me Bags" and doing some team building activities. We even started to show what we know about math, writing, and reading. We don't waste any time in 3rd grade!
Please use this blog as a place to check for updates and reminders. It will also have helpful links and resources for you as a parent. You can always use the contact tab to email me. I will send an email each week with the direct link to the new blog update. Make sure to read and check out what we've been up to in our class.
Reminders:
Color the Park-Save the date for the fun Walk/Run/Stroll on Sept. 23. Information came home in the yellow folders at Open House about how to earn pledges for this event. Please remember, this is our main school fundraiser for the year. Each student has a goal of $25.
Monday, September 12th - Registration Forms and payment due
Friday, September 16th - Pledge Forms Due

Homework/Agendas-We will begin our nightly 20 minutes of reading next week Monday. Expect this each night, as well as a homework sheet on Tuesday night (due Thursday). Math flashcards will be coming home in the next couple of weeks. You have probably noticed fancy agendas coming home in backpacks this week. Please get in the habit of initialing each night after your child has completed their homework. This is a great way for them to learn responsibility in 3rd grade. Please encourage your child to remind YOU to sign, and not the other way around :)
Parent Volunteers-I am working on a schedule for parent volunteers in our classroom. Please let me know if you are willing to help in our classroom, but forgot to sign up at open house.
Ask your child about (to avoid those, "What did you do at school?"..."Nothing" conversations)
-How did you work together to "save fred" the gummy worm?
-What is a growth mindset? Why is it okay to make mistakes?
-What is our school theme for this year? We read the book Swimmy as a school. We are learning how we can be "Better Together"!
-Why should you be careful with your words? (Ask about the book Mr. Peabody's Apples)
-Who is Mrs. Rumford??
I hope you enjoy the weekend! I will be celebrating with my daughter Lorelei, who turned 1 today!!
-Mrs. Mutschler
