Dear Families,
Did you know that January through March are known to be when students do the MOST learning in school? We are using our New Year goals and a fresh start to really get gears going and work hard to achieve tons of learning this month. We have been diligently working on nonfiction books in writing, moving on through elapsed time in math, and diving into nonfiction books during reading. Thank you for supporting your child during these bleak winter months. Don't lose momentum with studying flashcards, practicing spelling, or working on math homework sheets!!
Reminders:
3rd Grade Mall-THANK YOU for donations for our 3rd grade Mall. I am still collecting cans of pop, candy, and individually wrapped snacks so we can have our next mall. This system motivates students to work hard, be responsible, and awards them for a job well done!
Mother/Son Bowling-Blue paper went home this week. Due back Jan. 18
Jan 23-27-Box Top Competition
Skating Party-Jan. 26 @ Terry Hall 6:30-8:30pm
Ask your child about:
(to prevent those "What did you do at school this week?" "Nothing." conversations :)
1. What animal are you researching for writing? What are some interesting things you've learned about this animal?
2. What have you learned about sound?
3. Are you saving up your Michigan Money for anything in particular? How much do you have? What do you hope to buy at the next 3rd Grade Mall?
4. Ask your child to read the analog clock at various times during the day and to practice elapsed time. This is one of the most difficult concepts for 3rd graders. Most students need additional practice with this concept!
What we learned this week:
Writing-
I can draft my nonfiction animal book.
Math-
I can solve problems involving elapsed time.
I can show data on various types of graphs.
I can interpret graphs (bar graphs, line plots, and tables).
Reading-
I can identify nonfiction text features.
I can paraphrase information in my own words.
Science-
I can explain how sound is a form of energy.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Mutschler
