Dear Families,
Check out our whole school "Better Together" picture! We are embracing the theme this year in many ways. Some different ways that students in our class brainstormed being better together...working in small groups, table work, peer editing, playing games and being good sports, and friendly MobyMax competition. We really are BETTER TOGETHER!! Please tag our school using the hashtag #pesbettertogether
Reminders:
Halloween Parade to the Laurels-If weather permits, we will be walking to the Laurels for our Halloween parade on the 31st. We will leave school around 1:00, walk down Park Ave. to Van Buren. We will take a right on to Van Buren down to 36th. Then will turn right on 36th Ave walking toward Curtis. Turn right onto Curtis which will take us back to school. If you are interested in attending our parade we are asking parents to line the parade route rather than going in through the Laurels with us, as there is limited space. If it does rain we will not be having an indoor parade. Teachers will have a rain plan for their individual classes.
Halloween Party-Our party will be from 2:45-3:45 in our classroom. We will play games, have snacks, and have fun together. Feel free to come for the fun! Beware...I've been known to include parents in games ;)
Class Store-Towards the end of every month we have a Michigan Money "Mall" between the three 3rd grade classrooms. If you are willing, please send donations to help with our supply of goods. My room is the sweets, drinks, and snacks room. (Last mall the three classes nearly cleaned me out!) We will take pretty much anything a 3rd grader would love. Small pieces of candy, cans of pop, individually wrapped snacks, etc. (leftover Halloween candy?!) Our next store will be this coming Friday, 10/28. THANK YOU!!
Postcards-They are rolling in! Thanks so much for getting the word out to your family and friends. If you haven't emailed our yet, here is the copy and paste "blurb"....
Hello! My child's 3rd grade class is studying the 50 states of our country. They would love to receive a postcard from each state. They would also love to receive postcards from many different locations in Michigan. If you are able, please send a postcard to their class. Including a fact about your state/city on the postcard would make it extra special. Please be sure to include your name and the child to whom you are sending the card. Please mail the postcards to Park Elementary, Attn: 3rd Grade-Mrs. Mutschler, 5525 Park Ave. Hudsonville, MI 49426. Thank you!”
What we learned this week:
Writing-
I can edit my piece for correct spelling.
I can publish my personal narrative.
Math-
I can solve real world story problems.
I can show what I know about multiplication.
**(Tests came home Thursday. All Unit math tests should be reviewed and then returned with a signature. If you threw this one away, that's okay)
Reading-
I can retell from my book.
We use this strategy...
Somebody...
Wanted...
But...
So...
Then...
(Helpful Hint-if you want to check in with your child's 20 minutes of nightly reading, ask them to give a Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then retell. They should be able to give this retell at any point in their book. It is a GREAT strategy to practice daily!)
Science-
I can classify animals into groups.
I can identify vertebrate animals vs. invertebrate animals.
Social Studies-
I can appreciate legends from our state.
I can understand how history has shaped our state.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Mutschler
