Thank you to many who visited our writing zoo yesterday! The students enjoyed sharing their books with you and reading your raving reviews and compliments! Thank you also for donations of treats for the celebration! What a great chance for these students to share their excitement about their topic and to feel accomplished as young authors!
Reminders:
No School Monday-Winter break!
Valentine's Day-
-Students should bring a cereal box or shoe box for their mailbox by Monday 2/13.
-We will play games and have activities throughout the day on Tuesday, 2/14. We will pass out Valentine's and eat snacks after recess from 2:45-3:40.
-Each student should come to school on 2/14 with enough Valentine's for each student. A pink sheet came home with names, but I will include them here as well, just in case ;)
-If you have doilies, stickers, or other Valentine's themed decorations, students can bring them to decorate their mailbox on 2/13.
Ask your child about:
Small prize for students if you make a note in agenda that you asked these questions :)
1. What did it feel like to share your writing with adults? How did it feel to present something you were proud of?
2. Why do we take the time to write down notes as we are reading informational books? What happens if we don't do anything with the knowledge?
3. What are some ways that you work to earn Michigan money during class? (helping clean the classroom, participating, being a leader, working hard, etc.)
4. What is your favorite type of writing? So far we have written narrative, essay, and informational. Our next unit is realistic fiction which falls into the narrative category.
What we learned this week:
Writing-
I can add final details and finishing touches to my informational piece.
I can share my piece with others and celebrate my hard work!
Math-
I can round to the nearest 100 and nearest 10.
I can identify place value.
Reading-
I can identify the 5 main text structures.
I can take notes using a graphic organizer.
Science-
I can identify light as a source of energy.
Enjoy the long weekend! See you Tuesday!
