We had a great 1/2 day where we celebrated March is Reading Month in our whole school assembly by reading with flashlights! We also highlighted ways that students have been #bettertogether this month! Ask your child about how they were highlighted in the assembly!
Reminders-
Decimals Review at Home
During this fraction unit, we introduce and work with decimal numbers up to hundredths. This concept has been difficult for students. Will you please help your child master this concept by reviewing decimal amounts (comparing, writing, saying) with real life examples? Show students an electricity bill, pull out a magazine with prices, point out numbers with decimals on billboards, etc) I am also including the Khan Academy website which would be a great resource for students to check out and review.

March is Reading Month Events Next Week-
Wednesday 3/14-Unplugged Wednesday-turn off all electronics for an evening and spend time reading or playing games as a family.
Thursday 3/15-Students may bring a book to share that was their favorite when they were little.
Friday 3/16-Wear your favorite team shirt to school.
What we learned this week-
Reading-
I can increase my reading stamina.
I can show how much I've grown as a reader. (I had a chance to assess student's progress this week and reevaluate their reading progress.)
Writing-
I can write topic sentences for my informational book.
I can organize my topic into sections and subsections.
Science-
I can show what I know about light by creating a device to "look around" an obstacle using mirrors.
(Ask you child about this neat Science experiment that we did this week, students came up with some amazing inventions to see around a table using only mirrors, boxes, and tape)
Math-
I can write decimal numbers up to the hundredths.
Have a wonderful weekend!
